Iron Ore Tailings: Comparison Between Press Information and Real Technology Data (Room 401)

The present work deals with the problem of the generation of tailings in the process of iron ore beneficiation. This issue became the focus of several surveys due to an accident in 2015 in the Fundão dam, in Mariana/MG, Brazil. A technological characterization study was carried out before the occurrence of the accident, in order to raise the main chemical and mineralogical aspects of the iron ore tailings. The characterization of the mud was performed through grain size distribution characterization via Cyclosizer, qualitative chemical analysis by x-ray fluorescence (XRF) and mineralogical analysis integrated to scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
