Analysis of Cold Joint Defect in Parts Produced by Casting Through Non-Destructive Testing (Room 414)

Even when a component is coated, the cold joint defect may appear due to the meeting of two metal flow at low temperature, which doesn’t allow for their complete mixing. It shows as apparent superficial cracks. The influences of time of matrix padding, attack channel speed, matrix temperature, melt metal temperature, molten thickness, matrix surface and length of the flow were analyzed in order to determine which factors preponderate the occurrence of the defect in casting parts. Then, through non-destructive tests, it was observed that the attack channels were clogged.
