Tracks: Direct Reduced Iron

With a firm focus on continuous innovation of the Tenova HYL direct reduction process, this presentation outlines Tenova HYL's latest developments regarding the production of high-quality metallic iron units for the steelmaking industry. The paper will describe the ZR process' enhanced digital capabilities and the production of high-carbon briquetted iron. The production process starts with the reduction of iron oxide pellets, followed with high-carbon DRI melting in an EAF, specifically sized and designed to produce pig iron. The process has unparalleled environmental performance, reducing to less than half the CO2 emissions compared to the conventional pig iron production route.
