Year after year, mobile equipment continues to be the leading cause of steel industry fatalities. We as an industry need to place an emphasis on eliminating mobile equipment–related fatalities. This can be done through implementing engineering controls and developing effective policies and procedures aimed at eliminating pedestrian and mobile equipment encounters. This presentation will review some of the engineering controls, policy and procedures developed at Steel Dynamics Inc. – Flat Roll Group Butler Division to prevent mobile equipment safety incidents.
