Five BB3 pumps located in a major steel factory are currently under evaluation and repair with Hydro Inc. after years of catastrophic failures and failed OEM support. The end user has extended the mean time between failure (MTBF) by utilizing Hydro-supplied material upgrades to the impellers and bearing houses. Hydro is utilizing condition monitoring services to continuously support the steel mill. Two pumps are monitored by 10 wireless sensors, measuring vibrations through 20,000 Hz. They are located throughout the pump train, providing predictive maintenance. Hydro can forecast when a pump needs repair, also attending to developing issues on the pumps in service.
