Study on Instantaneous Transport Phenomenon Along the Full Continuous Casting Slab Strand (Room 407)

Three-dimensional models along the full continuous casting slab strand — including the large eddy simulation turbulent model, the heat transfer and solidification model, and the Lagrangian discrete phase model — were developed. The periodic asymmetric flow in the mold was successfully predicted. The asymmetric flow from the nozzle causes the stream to oscillate left and right, leading to a transient variation of the temperature and the solidified shell thickness. The transport of inclusions was controlled mainly by the transient flow field. The final distribution of the entrapped inclusions in the continuous casting slab was revealed to be asymmetrical.
