Induction Bar and Edge Heating Technology in the Hot Strip Mill (Room 306)

This paper will present the application of high-frequency induction heating for the transfer bar in the hot strip mill. Edge heaters compensate for the heat losses at the transfer bar width edges. It is achievable for bar heaters to control the temperature at different points of the bar, to minimize skidmarks, and to compensate low temperature near the tail for reducing loads of the finishing mills, especially for hard materials such as high-tensile steel. The system's design and control, and their contribution to improving the quality and yield, will be discussed.
