Quenching and partitioning treatment presents new possibilities of applications for steel plates dedicated to the transport sectors. The improved combination of strength and toughness will allow, in the near future, the exploration of complex designs. Different routes (chemical composition and stop-quenching temperature) have been explored at the laboratory scale for 5-mm plates. First results obtained via a salt bath treatment show a drastically improved uniform elongation. Industrialization is studied via the utilization of an ultrafast cooling technique; this comprises specific properties evaluation, including the weldability that will be downgraded due to a higher carbon equivalent (CEV) as compared to the classical quenching and tempering route.
