Impact Zone Solutions for an Improved Flow Performance in the Tundish (Room 319)

Today's function of a tundish not only includes the basic purpose of being a buffer between the ladle and the mold(s), it also acts as a refining vessel with the aim to separate non-metallic particles, guarantee thermal equilibrium between the strands and avoid any contamination, which is strongly linked to the fluid flow in the tundish. The design of the impact pot is known to have a strong impact on aforementioned performance indicators. In this paper, the latest developments of RHI Magnesita, supported by means of modeling and simulation, are presented.
