An Environment-Friendly Replacement for Hard Chrome Coating of Work Rolls in Cold Rolling Mills and Continuous Casting Molds (Room 309)

Although hard chrome has been used in steel industry for coating surfaces of cold rolling work rolls and continuous casting mold, it provides limited corrosion resistance and high temperature wear resistance due to its brittleness that could spall upon any applied external stresses. In addition, electroplating process for making chrome coating is carcinogenic and heavily regulated and possibly will be banned. Because of all the problems mentioned above, Maxterial Inc. developed a coating that can solve these problems with excellent corrosion protection and good high temperature wear resistance and comparable wear resistance in lubricated conditions.
