The Department of Energy’s (DOE) Better Plants Program aims to drive energy efficiency in the U.S by partnering and working with energy intensive industrial companies. With over 202 partners, the program draws participation from across the manufacturing sector. The presentation covers the various technical assistance opportunities available though the program, with emphasis on resources tailored for the Iron and Steel industry. The training workshops offered, along with the system-analysis software tools that support them are discussed. Specifically, the capabilities of the Process Heating System Assessment tool (PHSAT), developed to improve the thermal efficiency of industrial heating equipment is explored in-depth.
