Tracks: TRACK D - Power Plant Technologies

Nowadays, various energy generation technologies are applied to meet the increasing energy demand associated with a consistent economic growth especially in Asia. Conventional combustion technologies are still relevant to secure the base energy supply, but, at the same time, all applicable emissions regulations have to be fulfilled. Sulphur dioxide, a pollutant responsible for the acid rain, is one of the hazards required to be efficiently removed from the flue gas. Seawater scrubbing is one of the BAT (Best Available Technologies) and secures high SOx removal efficiencies with only minimal power consumption for the process itself. Doosan Lentjes has installed several seawater flue gas desulphurisation (SWFGD) plants, especially in Asia. This presentation will focus on three SWFGD plants installed in Vietnam all of them with excellent performance data generated over the last years which confirm the environmental compatibility of this technology. The reliability of the SWFGD technology secures minimal maintenance efforts and a high availability. The water discharge quality also complies with the environmental guidelines. The installation of highly efficient aeration systems results in excellent oxidation rates and allows high discharge pH values of over 6.5 to be achieved. Apart from power plant applications, this technology can also be used for desulphurising exhaust gases from different industrial plants, such as, aluminium smelters or cement plants.
