Hidrokinetic Turbine Implementation in Canal Outlet at Paiton Power Plant (Room Knowledge Hub, Booth N30, Exhibition Floor)

As a state‐owned enterprise electricity power producer, PT PJB Paiton has been given several targets from the government of Indonesia related to the improvement of energy efficiency and the reduction of exhaust emissions. In addition, the government of Indonesia wants to create a cleaner and more environmentally friendly electricity energy by increasing the percentage of renewable energy power plants annually, which in 2025 will reach 25% of the total power plants installed in Indonesia. Therefore, to fully support those programs and targets, PT PJB UP Paiton will implement a Hidrokinetic Propeller Turbines that utilizes the kinetic energy which come from the cooling water system outlet canal. From the feasibility study that has been conducted in PT PJB UP Paiton, the outlet canal has an average velocity of 2.5 m/s. With a 22 m width and 2.5 m depth, this outlet canal can generate power for approximately 429.69 kW. By installing Hydrokinetic Turbines, PT PJB Paiton can generate 121.44 kW electricity power. Furthermore, the economic benefits that can be achieved is approximately Rp 8,490,600,000.00 with a 6.3 years payback period
