Demystifying the CVA Process (Room Capitol B)

17 Oct 18
11:00 AM - 12:15 PM

Tracks: Continuing Permitting & Leasing Momentum

Several US projects with expected COD in the 2020-2022 timeframe are moving into the design, fabrication, and installation phase. On the outer continental shelf these phases are regulated by BOEM and the developer must employ a CVA. The CVA process originated as part of the U.S. offshore oil and gas federal regulatory process. It can be compared to project certification to IEC standards, but is different in scope, deliverables, and reporting obligation. The CVA process should not be mysterious or confusing. While details of implementation of the process are still developing, the overall intent and process are clear. The speaker will present a concise overview of the scope and process; how the developer, CVA, and BOEM will interface; and the process work-flow. This will remove speculation and uncertainty for developers, OEMs, fabricators, and installers. The speaker will explain the risk-based approach to inspection, giving examples and addressing concerns expressed by suppliers.
