The future of the US Offshore Wind Industry has arrived. Nothing signals this better than the announcement in April that a complete fleet of Jones Act capable vessels will soon be available to service the offshore wind industry from installation through decommissioning. While the arrival of a full service fleet ushers in a new era for offshore wind in US waters, it also generates a host of legal and policy considerations attendant to the introduction of new vessels into a long-standing regulatory environment. While the Jones Act, long a barrier to meaningful offshore wind development in US waters, will likely become less of an obstacle, new policy and legal considerations around the introduction of a new maritime market will present challenges and opportunities.
