NASS 2019 Annual Meeting

Ticketed Hands-on Course: Fluoroscopic Guided Lumbar Spinal Injections (Room Gold Theater, Yellow Lab (The Learning Place))

Course Chairs: Allen S. Chen, MD, MPH; Zachary McCormick, MD; Byron J. Schneider, MD

This half-day intensive workshop, featuring basic lumbar spinal injection techniques, provides didactic, hands-on, and case discussions to provide further understanding of the role of basic lumbar spinal injections in spine care. The workshop will progress your knowledge and skill, utilizing cadavers for demonstration of anatomic fluoroscopic structure in correlation with the various procedures. Residents and fellows are highly encouraged to attend, though all providers are welcome as space allows.

Experienced faculty, many who are involved with the with the NASS Interventional Spine and Musculoskeletal Medicine (ISMM) Fellowship Program, will provide an intimate opportunity to improve knowledge regarding patient selection and technique for lumbar epidural steroid injections, lumbar medial branch blocks, and sacroiliac joint injections. This course will provide both formal didactics and hands-on training with cadavers. Anatomic fluoroscopic structural correlations with various lumbar injection procedures will be covered. An up to date literature review pertinent to the included procedures will also be covered.

Upon completion of the course, participants will gain strategies to:

  • Summarize the role of each procedure in the overall care and rehabilitation of the spine patient;
  • Describe contraindications to the performance of the procedure;
  • Assess potential complications associated with each procedure;
  • Differentiate technical parameters in the performance of each procedure;
  • Demonstrate anatomy and safe radiological principles involved in each procedure.
