NASS 2019 Annual Meeting

Interdisciplinary Spine Forum: Future of Spine Care: How Will Spine Care Adapt to the Changing Dynamics of Health Care Delivery? (Room Skyline Ballroom W375d)

26 Sep 19
8:30 AM - 9:30 AM

Tracks: Multidisciplinary

Moderator: Eric H. Buchl, MPAS, PA-C

About 80 percent of adults experience acute back and neck pain at some point in their lifetimes. It is the most common cause of job-related disability and a leading contributor to missed work days. More than a quarter of adults reported experiencing low back pain during the past three months. About 20 percent of people affected by acute low back pain develop chronic low back pain with persistent symptoms at one year. With more than 70 percent of healthcare providers using telehealth or telemedicine tools to connect with patients how will spine care change, how do we adapt to reach our patients, improve accesses, improve outcomes, reduce disability and maintain cost effective care models.

Upon completion of this session, participants should gain strategies to:

  • Understand the impact of bringing telehealth to spine practices;
  • Have a basic understanding how telehealth can improve patient outcomes, increasing patient engagement and satisfaction, improving patient convenience, providing remote and rural patients with access to care;
  • Have a grasp of changing cost structure in telemedicine and spine care.
