It’s one of the oldest moral issues humanity has faced – whose life is more precious, a mother’s or the child’s she’s carrying? Societal consensus has fluctuated from one side to the other across geographies and over the centuries. In Western societies the majority view appears to have shifted in the past 50 years. Why is that, and is the shift morally defensible?
