Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems is a thermal power generation systems company jointly established by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi and started business operations on February 1, 2014. The wide range of gas turbine products positions MHPS benefit from the expected global power demand expansion.
The J-Series gas turbine was developed by MHI to operate with combined cycle thermal efficiency over 61% and its business operations have been transferred to MHPS. This state-of the-art gas turbine operates with a firing temperature of 1,600 °C (2,912 °F) while keeping low NOx emission level. After successful validation at the “T-point” in-house verification plant, five M501J gas turbines have started commercial operation in Japan and six additional units in Korea. The total fleet operating experience exceeds 65,000 Actual Operating Hours (AOH) with more than 1,500 starts. A total of 31 M501J have been sold and an air cooled version called JAC is also available.
The H-Series gas turbines were developed by Hitachi and their business operations have also been transferred to MHPS. In 1988, the first H-25 started commercial operation in Japan. This gas turbine is a heavy-duty single-shaft design rated 30-40 MW while the H-15 is a 17MW scaled down model of the H-25. The ISO rating of the H-25 was originally 25 MW; however its performance has been upgraded multiple times to the current 42 MW output. As of 2013, a total of 165 H-25/15 units have been sold around the world for oil & gas, chemical, industrial, utility, IPP and regional heat & power applications.
In 2010, the first H-80, a 100-110 MW class heavy duty dual shaft gas turbine started commercial operation at a Japanese utility company and it can be applied for 150-300 MW class combined cycle plants. Thirteen H-80 units have been sold.
This paper describes the operational experience of the latest MHPS gas turbines including the M501GAC, the J-Series and the Hitachi H-series gas turbines.
