Energy harvesting has been a technology that has been highly sought after for several applications, including building automation. One of the problems has been the wireless radio range and commissioning of these devices to work effectively and easily in a building. Using NFC with ZigBee 802.15.4 radios, most of these issues can be solved. Issues to be discussed: using IEEE 802.15.4 radio technology to increase range, green power specifications and operation, methods of commissioning energy harvesting devices to a wireless network, NFC with NTAG commissioning methods, how to use NFC NTAG to decommission or recommission a device after it has been installed, combining wireless devices with energy harvesting devices on the same network, and using NFC for energy harvesting.
