The ambulance industry, especially the area of ambulance transportation for dialysis patients, is extremely vulnerable to fraud and abuse. During this presentation we will discuss the various schemes employed by these offenders to illegally obtain reimbursement from Medicare and other insurance companies. Some of these schemes include payment of kickbacks, billing for services not rendered and transportation of patients who do not require an ambulance. The attendees will learn the requirements for reimbursement from Medicare as well as some indicators to help identify ambulance companies that may be committing fraud. We will also discuss effective techniques used to investigate ambulance fraud cases. These points will be supplemented with real case examples.
