Abstract:

In 2009, Texas Instruments opened the first 300mm Analog factory (RFAB) in Richardson, Texas.   This was enabled by the fact that TI was able to purchase equipment at a steep discount to its original value at the depths of the 2009 recession.  Today, TI continues to purchase capacity well in advance of its needs, which means TI can still make equipment purchases selectively and at comparatively low prices.

As a result of the strategy, TI is increasing its competitive technology advantages while enjoying lower manufacturing costs and lower capital expenditures.

Karen Erz will discuss TI’s 300mm used equipment strategy at RFAB and DMOS6 as well as challenges, lessons learned, and successes achieved since RFAB opened 7 years ago. She will also discuss the impact this culture change has made on the Texas Instruments overall used equipment strategy.
