Abstract:

Advanced Analytics and Machine Learning are not new topics for today’s electronics manufacturers, to the contrary, much of the earliest uses of analytics traces its roots to early statistical process control innovators.

But much is happening in other fields around the world - marketers, investors, insurers, medical researchers and social media innovators are applying new analytics and machine learning techniques to bring near human levels of intelligence to all aspects of the business.

Microsoft is at the forefront of the application of sophisticated machine learning – the “smarts” that drives the Bing search engine, predicts what Microsoft Office users will want to do next, and ferrets out the pre-indicators of impending systems failures in the cloud.

Many of these innovations – particularly machine learning based on neural networks, will have capabilities useful across the firm – including operations.

In this session we’ll highlight some of the most forward thinking of these intelligent applications, and focus on those areas that may be immediately useful upstream, alongside, and downstream of today’s advanced wafer fabs.
