Dan Spears, Vice President of Industry Relations & Licensing at BMI, will give an inside look at music licensing and the issues that club owners face in today's environment. Get an in-depth look at copyright law, performing rights organizations, what licenses a club needs to cover the music played in their establishment, how the fees are determined and where those fees go. In addition, George Ducas, a working songwriter, will speak to the important role that nightclubs play in an artist’s career. George will also discuss the songwriting process and how a song gets recorded by an artist. The world of music licensing is full of complexities and misconceptions and this session will provide clarity for some of the more important issues.
