Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has significant implications for the family, and with diagnoses on the rise, counselors will inevitably treat from a systemic approach due to the detrimental effects that ASD can have on the family unit. This session will provide an overview of ASD and current evidence/empirically based family treatment interventions, offer an outline of potential roles the counselor may need to take on, and explain how this system perspective can aid the professional counselor in practice when assisting families with ASD.
