Advocacy is fundamental to the counseling profession. Advocacy is a two-pronged concept which includes both client/social advocacy and professional advocacy. The idea of advocating for our clients inherently feels right, but advocating for the counseling profession and the services that we provide may seem self-serving (Sweeney, 2011). In this session, we will discuss the importance of professional advocacy as well as how we can incorporate professional advocacy into community engagement.
