This presentation will survey representations of body image in popular media and process their effects through relational-cultural theory. The presenters will describe a creative body image intervention using “photovoice” to help empower individuals by allowing them to deconstruct media images related to body image and create their own images and accompanying reflections. This intervention has been used with girls and women across the lifespan and can easily be replicated across a variety of educational and mental health settings.
