Tracks: Connected Car Opportunities, Service Professionals, Young Professionals

The U.S. Department of Transportation has been developing a system of connected vehicles for over a decade. The technology is based on wireless technology that allows all vehicles to “talk” to other cars, trucks and buses as well as traffic signals, work zones and other infrastructure. The technology has the potential to address up to 80% of all crash scenarios. Soon the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is hoping to issue a proposed rulemaking that will require the installation of vehicle-to-vehicle communication equipment in all new vehicles, paving the way for connected vehicles to be on our roads by 2020. However, this rulemaking will only apply to new vehicles. Existing vehicles will need aftermarket communication devices to be able to join in this connected vehicle environment and leverage its benefits. This presents a significant opportunity for developers, installers and manufacturers to aid in the transition of connected vehicle technology from research toward full deployment.

Attendees will learn:

  • What are connected vehicles are and how they work.
  • The benefits of connected vehicles.
  • The opportunities for the aftermarket industry.
