The role of the company officer is arguably the most critical leadership role in the fire service, directing the day-to day operations of the crew, communicating up and down the chain of command, and serving as a mentor and advocate for workers. This course focuses on the interpersonal dynamics of the role of company officer. Students will engage in leadership lessons from the firehouse and recognize the difference between leading in the station and managing the fireground and will see why leadership and management are critical to the role of company officer. They will work through several atypical scenarios that will force them to think about their own actions. They will leave with lessons learned from the experiences of other company officers and insights into how to be a successful and safe company officer.
