Session 4M: Technology Horizons: Ensuring Reliable and Safe Gate Operations (Room Booth 11063)

Spillway gate control equipment at many dams has been in service since original commissioning. At Jordan Dam, the spillway gates and associated machinery is approaching 100 years in service. Due to tight reservoir control requirements, the spillway gates are operated very frequently. A project is in progress at Jordan that will provide a safer means for plant staff to operate the spillway gates as well as improve operational reliability. This session will discuss the evaluation of the spillway gate machinery at Jordan Dam and ultimately the decision to completely change the design from spill cars to fixed gate machinery for 17 spillway gates.
