Organizational decision-making must be based on more than just annual response numbers. Today’s fire service environment demands measured performance to drive every day decisions. Understanding practical performance measurement is the first step to matching your department with the ever-changing environment. The dynamics of our environment in which we manage our department presents daily challenges. Decision-making based upon intuition and gut-feelings is obviously not the best course of action. As the fire service evolves, so does our access to information. Measured data to evaluate organizational performance provides vast opportunities to improve upon programs, processes, and streamline workload for efficiency. Performance measurement, in many cases, is a foreign language and often avoided because of misunderstanding. This program will help students gain an understanding of what information is available and how it can be visualized to aid in organizational management.
