Small unmanned aerial systems, or sUAS, are transforming how the fire service plans for and responds to emergencies. In this session, attendees will gain an understanding of the capabilities and advantages of these systems, and where these platforms are heading in future years. Learn how these systems can be applied to pre-planning activities, HAZMAT incidents, wildland and commercial fires, and search and rescue operations. Instructors will share their experience surrounding the planning, funding and deploying of a specialty response team. This session will also cover the regulatory environment and how your agency can navigate federal and state requirements for emergency operations. A variety of small robotic systems will be on hand and discussed.
