Having an employee injured at work is challenging enough for employers. When an injured worker is prescribed opioids for an extended period of time, management of the injury and the workers’ compensation claim becomes more challenging and the injured worker is less likely to return to work. Employers have the potential to positively impact the situation and return employees to work in a healthy and safe manner. In this session, we’ll discuss options available to assist employers in managing injured workers taking opioids. Topics include commonly prescribed opioids for work injuries, steps to take during the initial phase of an injury, proactive measures that can be taken during the course of a claim, and resources for addressing claims involving long-term use of opioids.
