N4A Concurrent Workshop Group V: Diversity Topics Track - Who are you? Who, who, who, who? - Helping make inclusive language commonplace (Room Salon 3-4)

Inclusivity is vital to the work we are all doing. But what happens when that inclusivity doesn’t make it into the language we’re using in our documents, programming, and every day conversation? Are we even aware of it?

The purpose of this session is to help student-athlete support and development professionals evaluate and analyze the language we use in our departmental documents and programming, and to identify ways to make it more inclusive. The session will look at the usage of personal gender pronouns, gendered language and scenarios that don’t need to be gendered, how to alter your own language to be more inclusive, and other topics around the importance of inclusive language.

Participants will leave the session with tangible tools to take back to your campus to evaluate your own departmental documents and programming for inclusive language and scenarios.
