Technical Solutions for Safe Handling of High-Strength Steel Coils (Room 306)

The production of high-strength steel grades in hot rolling mills is gaining more and more importance. The strip thicknesses of these materials reach up to 25.4 mm. In addition to the technical challenge presented by the production of these materials, there is also the aspect of safe coil handling. For older hot strip mills, the modification of the coil removal equipment involves high investment costs and imposes long standstills. This paper defines the problem, shows technical solutions already implemented and gives an outlook to other possible solutions.
