Influence of the Normalizing Rolling Parameters on the Toughness of a Nb, V and Ti Microalloyed Steel Processed in the Gerdau Plate Mill (Room 311)

The influence of normalizing rolling parameters on the toughness of NbVTi-microalloyed steel was investigated in 15- and 30-mm-thick steels. The materials were characterized using tension tests, Charpy impact tests and mean grain size measurements. The rolling process was analyzed by the determination of the hot mean flow stress (MFS) using the MicroSim model for microstructural evolution. The MicroSim model presented interesting results that helped to explain in some way the obtained toughness values. These analysis were made with the objective to establish correlations between the rolling process and the toughness results on the final product.
