Pulverized Coal Feeding Vessels – Characterization and Optimization (Room 405)

Pulverized coal injection (PCI) into blast furnaces is state of the art for energy-efficient operation. In general, pressurized feeding vessels are employed to dose the coal into transport pipes and eventually introduce it to the tuyeres or raceway zone of blast furnaces. Most suppliers use similar components. However, the arrangement and the recommended operation conditions can have significant implications on injection behavior and, furthermore, the injection rates. Since the pressurized feeding vessel is a key component of PCI plants, a design of experiment (DoE) to identify the critical operation parameters and optimization potentials on a lab-scale device is presented.
