An advanced technique to improve the control for threading of the tandem hot metal sheet mill was previously developed with highly successful results. This paper expands on the previous work in control of the tandem hot metal sheet mill as a basis to apply the new control method to the tandem cold metal sheet mill. The new method couples an advanced technique with virtual rolling to improve the control for threading. Simulations have shown this new method to be highly successful in simplifying the control for threading, which ultimately reduces design and commissioning costs.
