Overhead crane accidents and collisions are costly, reduce productivity, may lead to safety violations, and can cause damage to machines, structures, and personnel, resulting in down time, additional costs, and possible injuries. This presentation compares strengths and weaknesses of some common currently available overhead crane monitoring systems, their general methods of operation, controllers, and main capabilities. The presentation discusses many of the commonly available features of crane monitoring systems, including bridge-to-bridge and wall collision monitoring, skew monitoring, zone and multi-axis zone protection, load monitoring, and options for semi-automating travel to preset locations in a crane bay.
