Tracks: Electrical Applications

The cold mill of Nucor Steel–Indiana, Crawfordsville, Ind., USA, had last been modernized in the late 1990s. All of the electronics — including computers, level 1, level 2, HMIs, communication networks, I/O and drives — were obsolete. Nucor decided to change out all of the above in a single, large outage. The cold mill is a key asset in Nucor's Crawfordsville operations. It was absolutely imperative for the mill to come back up on a fast learning curve. This paper describes the project constraints, alternatives considered, decisions that were made and the results achieved.
