Optimization in the Steel Industry: Exact and Approximate Optimization Methods to Minimize Production Costs and Human Resources Allocation With Cloud Computing Methods (Room 315)

The process of allocating human resources with the appropriate level of competence demanded by the different stages of the productive processes of a large industry is complex. The objective was to develop a decision support system based on optimization methods and on cloud computing to dynamically define the optimal headcount needed to meet the production capacity demand of two different steel mills in Brazil, thereby assuring a minimum production cost. The system calculates an optimal allocation of the available human resources in order to minimize the total training time and integrate productive sectors of the industry through synergy between them.
