CaO-Al2O3-based fluxes show different capacities of absorbing inclusions with respect to their different production methods: pre-fused or blended. To compare the effect of the fluxes prepared using different methods on the cleanliness of low-carbon low alloy steel, steel-slag interaction experiments were performed in a vertical tube furnace for 10 and 30 minutes at 1,600°C. The inclusion characteristics were evaluated. The effect of the mineralogy of the fluxes prepared using different methods on the cleanliness of the steel was revealed, which provides the fundamentals to select a suitable ladle flux for an optimized steel quality.
