Slopping is a phenomenon that occurs in many steelmaking plants with BOF converters. During the oxygen blowing period, the formation of the emulsion occurs, which often increases in volume and if excessive is expelled from the vessel. This occurrence generates some problems for the steelmaking process, such as financial and metallic material losses. The purpose of this work is to identify the variables that can most influence the occurrence of slopping with the use of statistic tools. In addition, multiple regression analysis was also performed to build a mathematical model capable of forecasting slopping.
