Effect of Snorkel Shape on Refining Efficiency of RH Treatment (Room 410)

Three types of RH reactors with different shapes of snorkels (round up-leg and round down-leg, oval up-leg and oval down-leg, and round up-leg and oval down-leg) were compared using the combined mathematical simulations and industrial experiments in the current study. The recirculation rate and the wall shear stress were simulated using coupled VOF+DPM (volume of fluid + discrete phase model), and the inclusions evolution of the steel was analyzed by Aspex automatic scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that the oval snorkel would enhance the circulation rate and reduce the number density of inclusions in the molten steel of the RH refining process.
