TRACK F - Capitalizing on Digitalization
Recently, Big Data has drawn the consideration from electric utilities to research how to handle and utilize big data in order to support increasing amounts of data. The electric utilities have been implementing to manage big data both supply side and demand side. Regarding the supply side, the renewable energy sources (RES) have been considerably increasing in the electricity networks.Meanwhile, demand side, which shall be applied with demand response (DR) and electric vehicle (EV) an emerging trend in the active management of electricity networks in the future. So, EGAT need to prepare for changing into digitalized electricity landscape. In order to prepare this, EGAT has implemented with the pilot project which is located at EGAT headquarter so as to simulate how to integrate and cooperate the information flow, money flow and electrical flow of EGAT simulation system. The pilot project consists of prosumers, meter data management (MDM), battery energy storage pattern (BESP), energy management system (EMS) and creating smart contracts of blockchain into application programing interface (API) of peer to peer trading platform which is developed by internal EGAT. This paper illustrates the overview of pilot project involving with objective, period of project, proof of concept, framework diagram and business model of this project. However, the data management will be investigated and designed in order to be as a role model for big data management in the future of EGAT. The challenge and the opportunity to manage uncertain data, which can be cooperatively utilized by an energy management system and energy trading system for this pilot project, are reviewed in this paper. Correspondingly, the results of energy trading platform and micro-EMS are expected to share benefit from their resources in pilot project. By doing this, utilities will be able to increase efficiency of overall operation by big data management and blockchain system.
