The occurrence of events such as an Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) or Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) like event is highly probable and disruptive to affected communities. These events can either be natural or human initiated with the potential for massive disruption on the daily activities of humans stemming from the loss of all communications to include air and ground based. Along with the loss of communications, electric services will be disrupted contributing to public limitation to basic services. This paper seeks to explore the impact of an EMP or CME event on the cybersecurity posture of commercial organizations and the contributory disruption to critical systems within the U.S. Operational and strategic strategies to reduce the impact of an EMP or CME event to will be offered along with recommendations for collaboration between governmental and academic organizations. Models will also be presented to support the strategies to serve as the basic for the beginning of an organizational unique strategic approach. Finally recommendations for future research will be suggested to bridge the existing gap between existing policy and theory.
