The Internet of Things (IoT) is constantly expanding as more products and tools move to incorporate “smart features” that require network connectivity. However, many of these “smart devices” arrive embedded with only basic cyber security defenses, such as a simplified Linux kernel, within their operating systems – creating a rash of new privacy and security concerns – which criminal organizations and nation states can use to their advantage.

John Cosby, head of BAE Systems’ Solution Architect team, will discuss how the Internet of Things (IoT) is causing a fractal expansion of the attack surface of modern IT. He will also take an intriguing look at how Machine Learning technologies are quickly becoming the most trusted tools in executing and defending against IoT attacks.

During this session, expect to learn more about the current state of the IoT and the reasons these smart devices arrive embedded with added security risks. He will also explain how adversaries are attempting to exploit this data, and how Machine Learning technologies can identify and address these threats and develop new countermeasures that can also be used to cyber harden other standard network technologies widely-used in the defense industry.
