Coming to America when I was 7 years old from Jamaica, having lived in over 9 cities and now calling the Bay Area home has taught me a thing or two about resilience and adaptability. I learned early on what it means to be different and Other. As a women in tech, I’ve learned that Otherness is my superpower. Because I start from a place of being inclusive of Other thoughts and ideas and welcoming of different and new perspectives, I am always able to connect unlikely dots.
As creatives, we’re often change agents. We can see a vision for what could be. The burden of proof, sharing that where we’re heading is worth the journey, is always on the change agent, n00b, Other. Getting to the destination requires building trust, radical collaboration, and more than anything grit and resilience to weather every storm.
