Capturing Cityscapes and Nature on the High Line

26 Oct 19
8:00 AM - 10:00 AM

Tracks: Cityscapes, Photo Walk

Speaker(s): Nancy Langer

The High Line is a very popular elevated greenway park and trail created out of tracks from an abandoned railroad. It runs along 11th Ave from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking district below 14th St to the Javits Center near the Hudson Yards development at 34th St. The
tracks were rescued from demolition by 2 enterprising individuals who created a non-profit organization called

Friends of the High Line in 1999. The organization was able to gain support and contributions from the community as well as rallying prominent, and wealthy individuals and politicians. The park is quite unique because it showcases multiple forms of landscape architecture, urban design and the natural world in an urban setting as well as commissioned art installations.

Photographers will find endless opportunities to capture images of the surrounding architecture and urban design, cityscapes, art installations as well as a living system of natural flora surrounding the tracks. And of course, photographing the people enjoying the park. We will gather at the entrance of the Javits Center close to 34th St and enter the High Line together at the wheelchair accessible entrance. All types of photographic equipment can be used but tripods are not recommended because of crowds.
