C220 | Transitioning From Block to Text-Based Coding With Microsoft MakeCode (Room 229 A)

16 Jan 20
1:00 PM - 1:40 PM

Tracks: Future of EdTech Educator

Microsoft MakeCode has brought coding to “phygital” devices such as the Micro:bit, Circuit Playground Express, MakeCode Arcade, and even Minecraft. MakeCode provides educators with the unique ability to teach students programming using block-based coding, which they readily grasp, and leverage this knowledge to facilitate a transition to JavaScript with a "flip" of the switch. During this session, participants will learn how two educators encouraged text-based programming, game development, and computational thinking through hands-on activities. Ideas will be explored so that educators can incorporate these tools to take their students to the next level of programming.
